2009 - Ethiopia by Motorcycle
Ethiopia by Motorcycle 2009.
Ethiopia. Beautiful landscapes, friendly people, primitive accommodations outside of Addis, Addis full of pick pockets, Addis fabulous Italian restaurants (ownership going back to colonial period), Ethiopian food.... umm... uh...., Lalibela carved, underground churches fabulous, Blue Nile Canyon (deeper than Grand Canyon) by motorcycle will be long remembered, road construction with signs announcing Chinese participation everywhere, multiple front tire flats, Church of the Arc of the Covenant, St. Marie of Tsion, in Axum (Can't go in the Church. One priest lives inside sans coming out for one year, to be replaced by another priest). Bike in image is Honda Africa Twin.

Comment from Burt Richmond:
We found the people to be very industrious, folks were walking to market every morning with produce and livestock to sell. It was very reminiscent of our several trips to Viet Nam.
However, Steve was with us in Ethiopia. While doing a bit of tourism walking in Adais Ababa, three youths tried to knock him over: One got down on all fours behind Steve and the other two tried to push Steve backwards, with the intention of knock him over, then stealing from Steve. Apparently, Steve, the skier was too sure-footed and did not fall. It all happened next to me. in my 30+ years of international travel, that was the only one of 2 incidents that I recall. The other was a pick-pocket in southern Spain.
