Nick Sargent, (left) speaks on 2018/19 ski numbers to La Societe Deux Magots, Wasatch Bagel. Nick is President, Snowsports Industries America.
"Skier days up by 11% (last year down by 0.5%), but skier participants down. Ie. Fewer skiers are spending more days on the mountain. Good snow year and less expensive passes account for skier day increase."
"Retailers and Resorts are hoping for a couple of more good snow years to reverse the industry decline experienced over the last ten years."
"Millennial preferences differ radically from prior generations. Millennials are more price conscious. Using internet tools they link lodging, pass purchase, outdoor gear and equipment rental into one shopping process. The retailers that adapt to these changing dynamics will thrive. Those who do not will die."
