Today was a challenging ski day.

At 9;00 AM three inches of new snow had fallen overnight, and ongoing snowfall impeded visibility. The previous two ski days the conditions were fabulous cold bluebirds. Then, I maxed out on difficult runs including Stein's Way and Jordanelle. My ski companion, PGA, and I skied in the new East Village area, both mornings.

Today, skiing alone, was quite a change. In the flat light and pushed around snow I moderated my skiing to middling runs and put more effort into pushing through new snow on top of the groomed surfaces. If there were a measure of calories per distance skied, I probably burned 20% more calories today than I would have on a bluebird day. I had lactic pain in my thighs at the end of the thirteenth, and last, run of the day.

On busy days, like today, it is best to minimize use of four lifts: Carpenter, Quincy, Sterling and Northside. I managed to do this never having to wait, as a single, more than three or four minutes for each of my thirteen lift rides.

Once again, Kudos to DV, who can produce a banner skier day for a local even on an otherwise crowded weekend powder day.
