The only time when masks are not mandatory at Deer Valley is when you are actively skiing or eating at one of their restaurants.. and then only when the food shows up.

My mask fogs my glasses. As I ski into the lift line, I raise my mask to cover my mouth and nose. Liftie will ask you to step out of the line to fix your mask if one nostril is exposed.

On the way up the lift, where the mask is also mandatory (though if you are alone on the chair, no one knows if you have it off) I hope that the glasses un fog. If they don't, I wipe them with my glove covered fingers.

Deer Valley wants to stay open and local health officials have mandated the mask...really face covering protocols. I believe the rules are ridiculous...we're outdoors, for crying out loud. But rules are rules and I try my best to comply. It's a small price to pay for the wonderful ski experience Deer Valley provides.

Counterintuitively, the virus has made for a much improved restaurant experience at Deer Valley. All restaurants are now reservations only. I have continued my daily breakfasts at Snow Park Lodge. I now have caring table service in a dining area where few patrons are there.

The servers, Baldwin, Alicia, Kevin and the hosts...Mike, Mike, and Jeff... all work to make my dining experience pleasant. Mary Ann and Joy, the maitress d's, just wave me in to the dining area with a smile...well, their eyes are smiling!

Jose, the chef, knows when I'm there because few order what I do... side of hard eggs and side of sausage. Occasionally, he comes out to give me a fist bump.

Coffee automatically comes fast. The guys know the mask is an irritant.

Kudos to Deer Valley for a great winter experience one month into the season!

Uncharacteristically, started at 2:40 PM today. Got ten runs in before resort closure at 4:15 PM.
