Picto Diary - 08, 09 May 2020 - Resuming Eating Out

Five of us around the outdoor restaurant table. Empty street. Other tables, indoors and outdoors, empty. Where is everybody? We're tryin' to do our part to help restaurant recovery subject to availability of outdoor tables... and enjoying it. Restaurant trying hard. Waiter says menus are only used once every twenty four hours.

Third time at Oishi since they opened after Orange designation. Squint at the offering on the table and you could be in Shinjuku.

I was hoping to see more locals out supporting local business recovery. What I saw bodes ill for Park City's future. Tone change from city leaders and businesses needs to change. They now talk only in terms of obstacles to recovery and not in terms of possibilities.

Addendum:

Hi Steve,

Very glad you and Margaret are well. Don and I are in Oregon with Clay and family. I nearly died twice last year so am wearing and making masks here now for family and friends and the hospital where Clay and Monica work in La Grande. Masks help protect people like us who are more vulnerable. I appreciate your opinion and certainly understand your reluctance to wear one. If you do change your mind, let me know and I would be happy to make some for you both.

We look forward to seeing you both in Idaho at some point. I am hoping to have one more surgery before returning home in a few weeks after Clay and Monica’s second daughter,Rory, graduates from high school.

Have a safe and fun rest of the year. Looks like the motorcycling is giving you a nice break from the stay at home time.
Take care,

Audrey

With very few exceptions, I do not plan going anywhere where masks are required or where mask shaming of the mask-less occurs. For me, the dangers of slippery slope, loss of freedom and increased, government enforced social control far outweigh the putative, still controversial, benefits of wearing mask for disease mitigation.

I have learned that life can actually be enhanced by staying home but for the outdoor outings, as encouraged by our County leaders, where social distancing can be maintained.

During the lockdown I missed the skiing, but, I have spent more time outdoors, motorcycling, hiking and picnic-ing in Summit County than I spent skiing. There's a word of discovery out there...scenery, wild life...that has opened up greatly expanded possibilities for outdoor enjoyment. Who knew that virtually no one walks the scenic, wild life infused Rail Trail between Echo and Wanship?

At home, social interaction has actually multiplied thanks to online meeting platforms like Zoom. Average attendance at our morning ROMEO coffee gatherings was 3 to 6. Now, its 15 to 20 via Zoom.

Add Amazon, home delivery, Netflix, Kaleidescape, curb side restaurant pick up to this mix and a world of expanded possibilities opens up without having to be in proximity with anyone other than family.and close friends.

I realize that, as a retired person, I have more flexibility than many to determine where I will and will not go. My prescription is for me. I'm not proselytizing... I'm just sayin'.

I spent six years living in Asian societies where mask wearing was common. But there, wearing a mask was a personal choice. I have no problem with mask wearing where it is a matter of informed individual choice. But, when mask wearing becomes a matter of government enforced social control and public shaming, that's where I get off the train, particularly as controversy on mask wearing persists.

But, don't worry about me, shunners and shamers, I don't plan on being anyplace near you.

Hi Steve,

Keep sharing the pics of these wonderful birds.

We had a sad experience. There was a baby pigeon who was not able to fly and it was facing the danger of being eaten by a cat or a dog.
We thought we would give it a new lease of life by making it stronger and help her fly. Unfortunately it didn’t survive. We felt bad about it. But realized that she was not normal.

Birds are such beautiful creatures of nature. Cant say the same thing about pigeons in the city though, as they leave a totally different impact. Yet they are creatures of nature.

Cheers.
Mohan, New Delhi

Really enjoying the bird spotting on our daily three miler walks. Have my new Lumix with 30x telephoto to get shots that I couldn't get with the phone cam.
