Picto Diary - 08 to 13 December 2017 - Recording
Above: Bishop with Harry Allen (tenor sax, on sofa), Renee Rosnes (piano, by door), Joe Patatucci (bass, on stool), Jay Lawrence (drums, at mixing board) and techs. Brooklyn, NY recording studio. Musicians taking a break. 13 December 2017.
Bishop is Executive Producer of jazz album to come out in April 2018.
Bishop was able to slip in a lunch steak at iconic Peter Lugars Steakhouse, within walking distance of the studio, located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, in sight of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Each musician was recording in a separate room, where his/her production was unpolluted by other sounds. The individual recordings can then be mixed to optimal sound and musical blend by the mixer. Musicians can hear, but can't see, each other via ear phones,
The musicians are among the top in their field. Jay hopes to the see the album in the Grammy nominations. We'll see. Fun for me to be part of this experience.

Thanks for this and for your several other book reviews that you have forwarded to me. I’m not a prolific reader (I’m slow as a reader – one of the downsides of being a bit dyslexic), so your reviews are very enlightening and enjoyable.
When I do read, it’s usually for work or for pleasure (and pretty light stuff when for pleasure).
I’ll also give you kudos for your travel-logs. We’re not quite there yet (one more kid to get through college!), so I share these with Carolyn so we get two trips out of them.
Between various technical glitches I wasn’t getting LSDM announcements for quite some time. And being way out here in the hinterlands (Pinebrook), I’m not inclined to drive into PC for coffee at 7:00 am too often. But Jack has me back on the list, and I do intend to come in for Harlan’s presentation next Wednesday. I look forward to seeing you then.

P.S. Your progress from the broken leg is very heartening. You inspired me to sell (cheap) my R1200C to my son, and he took it back to Ohio where he is now a design engineer for Honda working on engines and engine control systems (that computer that none of us older guys understand).
P.P.S. The gold mining (actually no mining for several years yet, just more exploration and development) is going well, and I’ve also got a copper property I acquired last fall that looks like a real winner and has the attention of several companies, including some very big ones.
Steve,
Congratulations.
