Picto Diary - 09, 10 August 2022 - Movie Reviews

We joined friends for dinner here after a movie: "Where the Crawdads Sing." The movie received mediocre reviews. I loved it. I loved the novel, by Delia Owens. The movie ... setting, tone, music, and characters... brought the book to life in the most effective way.

Grappa was hopping. There doesn't seem to be a recession or inflation impact in Park City, though this mountain town is not necessarily representative of broader America. The last time we were at Grappa was some three years ago. It took us three hours to get through the meal so bad was the service. This time the food was excellent and the service excellent. TIMDT's recent quest to branch out to more restaurants beyond our traditional haunts is panning out well.

The best of Bollywood. Highest grossing Bollywood film in history. We watched RRR today. RRR: a fictitious story about two legendary revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they started fighting for their country in the 1920's. I loved this movie. Netflix. Aspirational and patriotic in contrast to the depressing woke effluent dispensed by Hollywood. One of the reasons we like going to India frequently is to experience the positive, albeit chaotic, energy of the place. The West is losing cultural mojo. India will take its place. India, not suffering the demographic challenges of China, and with its ongoing emphasis of the spiritual, stands to be a cultural touch stone for civilizational progress in the next couple of decades.

Addendum:

Steve,

This is the same guy who, thirty years ago, made inflammatory claims about Texaco’s contamination of the Ecuador rain forest, claims that led to a many-years-long and completely unsuccessful litigation. So, I start out with a bias. But I’m surprised that even without that experience you aren’t more skeptical. After all, this is the same person who has claimed Sirhan Sirhan was innocent of Bobby Kennedy’s murder, that 5G high speed transmission towers are being installed “to harvest our data and control our behavior,” and (even before Covid) that vaccines cause autism. An article in the New York Times, dated 2-26-22 and updated 3-1-22, discusses all of this and much more in detail. To me, Kennedy seems a bit crazy, and I wonder if his past drug and alcohol abuse may have contributed.

Great summation of an important book Steve!

Now I see you have an AR 15. What in the hell do you need that for? I hope I do not see your AR 15 or semi auto pistol on the front page of some newspaper after a horrific shooting involving Drums or one of his friends who got a hold of these weapons.

You never served in the military. I did and I was trained with military weapons. If you had, you would appreciate why these weapons do not belong in civilian hands.

Steve,

Love the moose picture and details, as well as the others included. But am wondering about the SS AR-15! See you soon.
