Three years ago, after taking over Park City Ski Resort, Vail representatives were not coy in acknowledging that they wanted to drastically increase the number of visitors to Park City. Their success in this regard would, of course, be a boon to business activity and property values.
The "Vail effect" would also, however, put pressure on infrastructure and services to handle the increased numbers. Local skiers, historically used to many days of low attendance on the slopes, would have to start waiting at the burgeoning lift lines.
Today, sitting on the lift chair, I engaged in two conversations with visitors that demonstrated evidence of the "Vail Effect."
A 50 something male skier from Maryland said that typically he and his wife traveled to Beaver Creek for their annual ski vacation. Now, with the flexibility of Vail's Epic Pass, and its transferability to all of Vail's properties, they extended their ski vacation this year to include Park City and Tahoe.
While reporting this conversation later to TWO3 and Montage on another lift chair, an Oz sitting adjacent on the chair said, "Hey, I overheard your conversation. We have the Epic Pass at Perisher in Australia. The reason we came to ski Park City was the Epic Pass.
Anecdotally, the Vail Effect taking effect.

Addendum:
Feel like we have made it now that we have official nick names.
Thanks for the mountain tour. Look forward to skiing and perhaps making it out there during warmer months.
