I love this "obscure Utah" spot. I come here once or twice a year.

This place causes me to fantasize. as I look over the expanse of Wyoming from its very southwestern corner.

That way, Cody and the Buffalo Bill Museum.

That way, Star Valley.

That way, Dubois and the Wind Rivers

That way, Devil's Tower

That way, The Big Horns

This, of course, is what I'm talkin' 'bout.

Its Mother's Day! Why not bring TIMDT to the best!??

The Bear's Spring surge.

Longest River, at 650 miles, in the US, the water of which does not drain, eventually, into an ocean.

Above: The Bishop at Echo Cliffs. Summit County, UT. 13 May 2018.

My great great grandfather, Andrew Hunter Scott, stood atop these Echo Canyon cliffs in October 1857 as a member of the Mormon Militia, for the purpose of intercepting Albert Sidney Johnston's 2000 troops US army marching to Salt Lake City (from Grandpa Scott's personal journal).

The stand off between US federal troops and the Mormon Militia was known as the Utah War. No lives were lost as a peace was brokered before major conflict started.

Federal troops bivouacked in Utah for two subsequent years, at Camp Floyd, west of Utah Lake, before being called back east to engage in the Civil War.

During the 1840s, 1850s and early 1860s, rather than seeing a view of a freeway and a railroad track descending Echo Canyon, you would have seen covered wagons pulled by oxen teams.

The transcontinental railroad, completed 149 years ago, in 1869, came through Echo Canyon.

"In Full Flight"

Steve, my understanding is that East Africa is much different than West Africa. I spent a lot of time in Congo Brazzaville (the French Conog) and lesser amounts in Zaire now the Democratic Republic of Congo (the old Belgian Congo). I met often with various Presidents and ministers of Congo Brazzaville. Also some time in Angola and Gabon. I Gabon I met with President Bongo. Your French would help greatly in the Congos. I believe the Congo River is second only to the Amazon. Huge crocs, hippos etc. While in West Africa plan to visit Namibia (German Colony).

You and Margaret should plan to attend the Safari International Convention the end of january. Last year it was in Vegas perhaps Reno this year. I can guarantee you have never seen anything like it. Why not join me and Dan in January 19?

Take care

I've travelled a bit in East Africa: Kenya photo safari, Ethiopia two weeks motorcycling, South Africa a couple of times, one time motorcycling the other cruising. I rode a motorcycle from Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam. I lived in Egypt for a year, and, I spent two weeks motorcycling in Morocco.

But, West Africa has eluded me. I hope to travel there soon.

Thanks for your always excellent retrospectives.
