Billy Gene's (nickname upgrade from Grrrr) first shooting outing today, using Grandpa's Stevens single shot 22 caliber rifle. Park City Gun Club. Rifle was a gift to Grandpa by his parents on his 12th birthday in 1957.

But, there is a deeper family connection to today's shooting outing. Granny holds the medal earned by her father, Billy Gene, as the US Air Force's top marksman in 1958.

Great grandfather Billy Gene, born and raised in rural Arkansas, was somewhat of a Kentucky Windage, Sgt. York type of shooter, but he knew the math too. In his time he knocked out more "V's" at 1000 yards than any other military competitor, whatever the branch of service.

Great Grandfather Billy Gene started his service in the Navy. He was a teenager on a mine sweeper at the Battle of Leyte Gulf in WWII.
Congrats to Billy Gene, Jr. for a great first start as a marksman. It must run in the family!

Way up here the pine is red.
Eat then rock the Colonel said.

Toast the two. Praise the link.
Know the morrow's in the pink.

Westward air tops Colonel's log.
Drop South Park. Fly to the fog.

Love and bliss for all to see.
Providential match at MIT. — with Margaret Taylor at Red Pine Lodge

Bishop:

That Goblin State Park is perhaps the most unappreciated of all the many natural “attractions” in Utah…………really fascinating and realistic little goblin people who appear to be frozen in time as they were covered with melted chocolate.

Been there several times, but not in the middle of August!

There are 100 otherwise uncelebrated sites in this state that would be national parks were they in any other state.

In January 2015, my friend Dr. Von Moody was flying his plane, weather closed in decreasing visibility and he crashed and died very near the Spiral. Von was 69.

Doc Bill,
Mesa, AZ

RIP. Desolate, stark, eerie, otherworldly location much better remembered for Dr. Moody's unfortunate accident than for frivolous, putative art.
