First view of the Salt Lake valley by pioneers coming west. In 1847, everyone thought this valley uninhabitable...'cept Brigham Young, who established a settlement here of followers of the church formerly known as "Mormon Church."
Cut in the mountain at left, on far side of the valley in the Oquirrh Range, is the gigantic Kennecott copper mine, still in operation.
Despite the haze, this is an uncommonly good view from this point. — at Big Mountain Pass. Out and about on the Duc.

Aside from Wasatch Bagel, best eating establishment I've been to today.
Earlier had lunch, outdoors, with friends at a half empty restaurant beside the Weber River, with a hyper Teutonic manager. Dined on Sysco pre-cooked smoked salmon on a bed of Sysco greens. Kraft blue cheese dressing. Had a taste of ersatz key lime pie with an unbuttered graham cracker paste underlay. A little hard to hear friends talk with all the 18 wheelers and mile long Union Pacific trains screaming by. — at Polar King Drive-Inn.
Addendum:
… enjoyed the Moose pics.
