Picto Diary - 17 to 31 December 2022 - Clyde Snow Shareholder

I played the organ at church today, but, noticing the laminated card shown in the image, I was a bit unnerved to find out that it may only be a matter of time before I am prematurely retired as an organist. I mean, why should a human play the organ when the instrument can be told to play any hymn automatically, without a real, human organist playing the keys?

The auto organ to accompany singing in church is just another example of the dumbing down of America. There are so many other examples of this... automatic transmission as a substitute for stick shift...checkers as a substitute for chess... pickleball as a dumbed down substitute for tennis are three easy ones.

The dumbing down of Americans seems to correlate with a decline in critical thinking as well. Nigh on to a majority of Americans are willing to give up time worn principles such as free speech as they willingly, naively follow what they are told to do, sans thinking critically, by elected officials and cultural icons.

Today is brother Buh's (rear, white shirt, wearing cap) seventy fourth birthday. I called to wish him happy birthday. He had been down and out, having spent four days in the hospital, with Covid. Having received a kidney transplant he is immune compromised, hence the extra caution of a hospital procedure. Buh reported on the latest get together of "the fellas" and their wives, Provo High school class of '66 classmates still meeting together after all these years. One of "the fellas" is Larry Corbridge, and LDS General Authority. I envy Buh these long-term high school connections. But for much beloved Hippo and Survival and a few periodic Facebook connections, I've lost touch with high school friends. Buh sounded well. Happy Birthday Buh!

Otherwise, a very good image, it's the cat that makes the image great!

"Have you been to the desert?"
"Many times."
"Well, who are you?"
"I'm Koestler."

"Clyde Snow Attorneys at Law:

Congratulations to our attorney Jake Taylor, our newest shareholder here at Clyde Snow & Sessions! Mr. Taylor started working with us in January 2020, his practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, securities enforcement, regulatory defense, and government and independent investigations. Prior to joining Clyde Snow, Mr. Taylor served as a Deputy District Attorney at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office. He also previously served as an Assistant Attorney General at the Utah Office of the Attorney General. In Jake's free time, he enjoys skiing, tennis, hiking, and traveling. Congratulations, Jake! #utahattorneys #utahlaw #clydesnow #welcomeaboad"

We are very proud of Jake. He has many strong qualities. He has personal and professional integrity, he listens, and he is loyal. He works very hard, he has a great, albeit quirky, sense of humor, and he is devoted to his family. Heretofore, all too often, I always saw Jake in only two dimensions, me as the father and him as the son. The fact that he now has his own family, that he is a successful, respected attorney, charting out his own course in life, compels me to think of him in a three-dimensional way, more than just "the son." Ironically, we are morphing to a point where he'll have every right to turn the tables and think of me in two dimensions... him the successful, well-rounded son and me a doting, increasingly dependent father.

Glad holiday visitors are here, but it's clearly time for this local to go home. I can get 9 or 10 no-lift-wait runs in by 10:30 AM if I'm first in line at the Carpenter Lift at 8:30 AM. Carpenter opens at 8:55 AM. After 10:30 AM, Deer Valley between Christmas and New Year's is a zoo.

Visitor LSDM Executive Committe Member (Emeritus), Fish, at far left. Topic du jour: Covid booster or not. Long departed from regular LSDM participation, in the early days, Fish secured the quality speakers that gave LSDM standing as a collection point for solid intellectual discourse.

Also present, Emily, Peterbilt, f16, JC, 'Cake, Bishop. Guzzi left before image was captured.

Carpenter Express and Silver Lake Express lifts. Settled for Cheerios at breakfast as line for hot food too long. Light for the hour and a half I skied.   loomed throughout the resort at about 9:45 AM. Left after ten runs to avoid the holiday hoards.
