Above: Big Data, LSDM walker, checks out PCM snowmaking. 19 November 2016.

PCM was supposed to have opened the skiing season today. But, its been warm... not sufficiently cold to make a lot of snow, in the absence of real snow. Park City has had to delay its opening for a week, from 19 November, to 26 November.

Manufactured snow building a bit. But, no snowmaking today. Too warm.

26th delayed opening at risk?

Addendum:

Your experiences and having the opportunity to live in so many places are just exceptional when dealing with WWII - I personally always had the feeling that Truman because of his background haberdasher from a small town , certainly had to feel someway inferior to a MacArthur who was number one at West Point and the other highly educated and experienced individuals that the United States had at their disposal in WW/2-as I remember MacArthur had planned a complete invasion into Japan and was just waiting for the opportunity to put into action - I am sure some of this has been a problem with Obama/current administration that Obama has had the same inferiority complex dealing with generals and even the leader's of Israel - Reading a book and putting physical action into reality are two very different perspectives !

Insightful.

Thanks for the overview Steve. I recently bought the book at Costco and plan to read it over Christmas break in Quebec.

Steve,

Saw good review of WWII pacific ops, Fleet @ Flood tide, by Hornfischer. Just out recently so maybe reviews are part of publishing PR & hype, etc., appears deeper than Killing series. About $14 bucks on e-version.

I'll look for it.

Steve- I read the book when it first came out and as it has been awhile your excellent review and summary brought it all back to me

I enjoy O’reilly & Dugard’s style of presenting history in this and the other books in the series

Fast reading, informative. Read the Patten book. They have a writing formula and it works... if you don't mind simplified history.

Very enlightening, especially today. Thanks.

Curious as to whether the book mentioned the military coup that only failed by a fluke the night before Hirohito was to announce the Japanese surrender, and was intended to continue the war?

Allen and Polmar's book Operation Downfall told the story of the decision to drop the bomb in Operation Downfall--published in 1995.

Yes. Was dealt with briefly.

Read the Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Rising Sun - the decline and fall of the Japanese empire", by the late John Toland. Toland tells the story of WWII from the Japanese perspective. Powerful book. Toland's wife is Japanese.

Read it years ago. Still have it on the shelf. I should pick it up again.
