Twenty miles before arriving at this spot (headed west) we drove through a posted "fire area." Thick smoke wafting at ground level raised concern that we shouldn't proceed. But, manned fire roads to the left, along the way, oncoming traffic, and no road blocks suggested that we could pass through... which we did. We drove through the pungent, heavy smoke but saw no flames. The last time I was on this road was circa 2014 travelling in the opposite direction on the BMW K1200 LT motorcycle... the one I just abandoned due to irreparable transmission problems. I rode through one of the most heavy rainstorms I had ever experienced while riding a motorcycle. I rode twenty miles in heavy rain, finding no shelter, before sighting a Shell station, whereupon I immediately stopped to wait out the storm. After twenty minutes or so, the rainfall attenuated and I headed out. Thirty miles down the road, I reached the flats heading towards Yakima, when the sun came out and the cloud cover disappeared... an amazing transition in the weather in such a short distance, or so it seemed to me. Daughter FeeBee climbed to the summit of Rainer with her friend Kelly circa 2002.

When traveling by Sprinter we don't always stay in the van. Many hotels, including this one, are now dog friendly if you pay a $30 or $40 supplement.

The Hood Canal Bridge (officially William A. Bugge Bridge) is a floating bridge in the northwest United States, located in western Washington. It carries State Route 104 across Hood Canal of Puget Sound and connects the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas.
Crossed this bridge coming from Poulsbo, on the Kitsap Peninsula on route to Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula.
New route for us. We're getting more familiar with the Puget Sound area. We had in past years visited Gig Harbor, south of Poulsbo on the Kitsay Peninsula, and Anacortes, an island north of Poulsbo.

Two Newfoundlands met on a street corner in Port Townsend. Monte is a rare brown newfie. Browns are only one of a hundred of the Newfoundland breed. Surprisingly, Monte's owners from Gig Harbor, forty miles south of here, announced they were moving to Park City in three months. What a coincidence! I mean, what are the odds? Two newfies meeting randomly on a Port Townsend street... one from Park City and the other about to relocate there!

Elmers Restaurant was a short walk from the hotel. I was able to keep to my regular 7:00 AM breakfast time. As can be seen from the image, the dawn hours atmospherics are good compensation for the struggle of having to get up and out early.

Dinner at home of Seattle and Jakarta, former Citi OZ boss in late 1970's. Maharajah and Comic Mom, good friends of Jakarta/Seattle, were our Citi boss in Beirut, 1972. Old Citi stories were shared. Fine home prepared dinner was enjoyed.
