Picto Diary - 24 to 30 November 2022 - Thanksgiving with Arkansas in Ivins

Thanksgiving prep.
We enjoyed having our niece, Arkansas (Lisa Bailey) as a houseguest over the Thanksgiving weekend. Lisa is first of two daughters to Peggy (TiMDT's sister) and Burl Stalnaker. Within the last two years Lisa has lost (in order) her mother, sister Susan, and recently her husband Doug. Lisa, mom of two daughters,a living affirmation of the solid provenance of TIMDT's family, has made a career working as a teacher and administrator in Arkansas public schools. She plans on teaching for another year or two before retiring. She has hopes of traveling. We were glad to facilitate a start to her traveling regimen by hosting her visit to Utah. Two days ago, with Lisa, we visited the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park.

Koestler, Grrr, and Bishop. Three generation ski day. My first ski outing in 2022/23. I (and others over 75 years of age) ski free at Brian Head. Snow conditions were good but being with Koestler and Grrr trumped all else.

Back to you with a photo from last week - on the shore of the Mekong River in The Golden Triangle - Laos in the background. Having a little fun on the newest motorcycle in my harem - a 2015 Kawasaki Versys that had been in Covid Lockdown for 2 1/2 plus years.

Yep, hadn't read the new book...Thanks for the tip and copyright date. I learn a lot from this author, for instance:
"She also says it’s too late to prevent a significant increase in global temperatures.” “She’s right about that.” “Why did the Americans withdraw?” “The man who was president at the time thought global warming was a hoax.” “Who would believe such a thing?” “It’s a rather common affliction among Americans of the far right."
Affliction? Ok, nice way to word it. 😁
I set aside another book I was reading; this one comes first. :-)

Hi Steve:
Great read, Portrait of an Unknown Woman. Knocked it down in two nights. It is #22 in the series, so for me it was like keeping up with an old acquaintance. The novels are educational, entertaining and great suspension of belief, until one realizes Silva is telling us true, like about the Israel spyware (real name Pegasus) that hacks some many people around the world. Having been to many of the places described in this book, like Corsica, London, NYC, etc., it's interesting the detail the author describes that I've seen, even a small port in the Mediterranean. I learned way too much about art/paintings in this book.... good knowledge to have on my cranial hard drive though.
Thanks for the lead/tip.
Best,
Dr. G
