Picto Diary - 25 July 2020 - Cuba Music
Nostalgia entry for 25 July 2020
Above: The Bishop plays rhythm with Andy Aldan de Santiago and his band at Los Doce Apostles restaurant near Morro Castle in Havana, Cuba. 14 March 2013.
I lifted this image from Morgan's great piece in Rider Magazine, May 2014 issue.
I just read the article, sent to me by Morgan some time ago, for the first time today.
I remember the moment. I was so into the music that I couldn't stand it any longer. I had to get up and join these guys. Seeing the unused, rasp sided gourd that I'm playing in the image, I just got up, picked up the instrument and started playing: sheees she she....shees she she.... sheees she she.
After I joined the band, my rider mates took my cue and started dancing in the restaurant. The band members and the wait staff loved it.
Great time!
Cuba music. Not destroyed by Castro like the rest of the country.
Addendum:
Thanks for the nod, tip of the helmet re" AM: FS :-)
My solo KLR Montana/WY/SD/CO road trip starts Monday, mixing with the fist-bumping H-D humanoids out there on the roads heading to Sturgis, but at a safe distance and only stopping in Sturgis long enough to take a photo while keeping my face shield down and face mask on and trying not to breathe in any of the toxic CV air - gotta be worse than Delhi.
