Picto Diary - 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 December 2018 - Ski

26 December 2018. TIMDT and Mwah (sic) were airborne much of the day, flying from London to SLC via LAX. Its the end of a near month long trip down the sea route of the Portuguese explorers, from Lisbon to Cape Town.

Some fascinating travel this year. Seeing tigers in the wild at Ranthambore in India, Jan. Disney Cruise Mediterranean, June. El Contador's birthday in Madrid, September. Cruise the route of the Portuguese explorers from Lisbon to Capetown in December.

Time to stay home for a while.... ski. With good reason, we returned to the best season start of December snow fall in several years.

Christmas gift from our sister in law, Linda, Joplin, Missouri.

So much appreciated are gifts personally created by the giver. Thank-you for this precious gift, Linda.

Bishop's first day out skiing this season. Needed to bring with him a seasoned expert to show him the ropes.

I've used skiing as my daily physical activity - in season - for over fifteen years. I ski from nine to noon and generally get somewhere between 12K and 15K vertical feet per day.

The physical activity I do during non ski periods is walking... trying to get 7K steps (3.5 miles) per day.

I felt uncommonly good starting up this season today with Bud. I seem to have avoided the lactic muscle pain experienced at the outset of previous seasons. One day is not enough to confirm the situation, but I felt good.

Each start of a skiing season, I'm fearful that I won't remember how to execute. But, each time, the muscle memory kicks in.

(2). Skied with 'Cake.

For second day in a row caught skiing with wrong year season pass. I paid for the pass!! I was just carrying an invalid one.

Bailed out each day with a temporary pass provided by efficient, effective DV ticket office, who took pity on my senior blunders.

They won't be so lenient next time.

Hey look. I'm a forest guy, not a tree guy!

Brought the correct ski pass!

Enjoyed skiing with Montage, a regular ski partner for the last 20 years.

Beaucoup people out early. Good early winter snow conditions are drawing lots of people to the slopes.

Disappointed to see no grooming off Mountaineer Lift, but for Jordanelle. We had hoped to ski a bit more over at Mountaineer to avoid the holiday hoards.

The ungroomed runs (Mountaineer, Fairview, and Silver Hill) were open, icy, slippery, and hazardous.

First world problems to be sure... sigh...

Doc 'n Audrey. Wasatch Bagel. 31 December 2018.

From the San Jose area, they've been coming to ski for a month in Park City, annually, for over 20 years.

Role models.

Superior skiers. Bishop is glad to ski with skiers who force him to up his game.

Bishop and Sally reminisce on El Contadore's magnificent birthday party...80th... in Madrid last September.

Old friends remember the first Big Cat ride, Summer, 1998, Nine Mile Canyon.
Ted knows how to sell. I could never go into his BMW motorcycle dealership 15 years ago without him trying to make some sale. "Hey Steve, we just got these great boots in...and in your size! Come have a look."
His selling skills have done him well here at Dave Strong Porche.
Look him up. Mention my name. He'll cut you a deal!

Ted's 2019, F350 Platinum in the background.

Addendum:

Loved the "bus rights" tale. As an handicapped economist I usually fly economy, so am often in the "back of the bus," albeit an Airbus.

Your commentary brought a song to mind by the Pretenders, Middle of the Road. “The babies just come with the scenery”.
