Addendum:

Thanks for forwarding the articles on anti-Semitism. I wouldn't abandon the role of the far right, either. ISIS is the present day distraction from Palestinian/Israeli issues.

Jews have no allies in Europe... either on the left or the right.

The European political left has been ascendant for some time, and left European political leaders have turned a blind eye to Jewish persecution, much of which comes from growing Islamic presence in their countries... per the two pieces you refer to, which I included in the Addendum of my 26 January diary.

The right's influence in Europe is growing. Rising right wing European nativism, however, today, has little to do with being anti-Jewish (few Jews remain in Europe, so what's the point?), and more to do with fears of the effects of Muslim cultural penetration.

About 10 years ago, I was traveling by motorcycle in Europe with an American Jewish friend (Mr. Z3). Together, one morning, we visited Jo Goldenberg's deli in the Marais, in Paris. I ordered my usual... two fried over hard... and found the plate was delivered by a 60's something guy. The waiter turned out to be Jo Goldenberg himself. We invited him to sit down with us as we consumed our breakfast. He did. He recounted to us (we were speaking French) the story of how his deli had been targeted by a Palestinian terrorist bomb in 1982... and, how, since that time, most of the Marais Jewish residents had left for Israel or the United States. NOTE: Ojai, CA based Mr Z3 and Mwah (sic) intend to motorcycle to Marfa, TX in April 2016. We do not expect to find any Jewish delis there, but, then again, we are prepared to be surprised.

The few remaining Jews in France, particularly post Charlie Hebdo (2015), are now in the midst of a debate as to whether or not they should shed their yarmulkas, to avoid being targeted by Islamic terrorists. I'm reminded of the Hindu women in northern India who started wearing veils, as Muslim women were required to do, after being repeatedly sexually assaulted by Muslim invaders starting about 900 AD. We see in both examples, the sublimation of cultural "badges" as persecution ramps up.

To your point, the far right Front National (FN), now rising in French political polling (there are also rising right wing parties in Denmark, Sweden and the UK), was seen by left wing opponents as an anti-Semitic organization, particularly when its founder, Jean Marie Le Pen was in charge. Le Pen's daughter, Marine, currently heads the FN, which now directs its energies not to Jew bashing, but, to decrying the growing harmful effect of unassimilated Muslim immigrant growth on French culture.

Ironically, Israel's strongest supporters today come from the American religious right. Best selling apocalypse author, and convert from Judaism to Evangelical Christianity, Joel Rosenberg, is one of Bibi's principal conduits to the US Christian right. That being said, as Rabbi Levinski was wont to point out, it is important not to conflate Jewish belief with the policies of the state of Israel.

Fun !!

Welcome Home! Now that you’re back, I look forward to joining you for some turns!

In your case, I wish that I could ski like a girl. Lets do it!

Hi Steve

This is Mohan here. Thank you for keeping me copied on all your blogs. They are very interesting. I have kept some of them un-read.

I admire the regularity with which you write the blog. I wish all of us had that kind of a discipline.

On one of your blogs someone asked if it would be possible to grow Tea in the US. From my limited knowledge of Tea, I can say that it requires a certain elevation, climate and soil. I am not sure if any region of USA is conducive for that. However we will check with our Tea Expert Mr. Mittal and get back to you with an answer that you can share.

Happy Skiing.

Please check with Mr. Mittal on the above and write back to Steve.

It was good to see you in New Delhi at the Imperial. Thanks for stopping by.

Looks like fun! Diane has some lower back issues, which kept us away from the slopes last year. It is killing me as my daughter, Melanie lives in Eagle and has 2 Vail season passes, which allow her to bring a guest… me!

Isetta, Chicago, IL

You and/or she are welcome here any time. Come over, stay here, and ski two or three days (or more). Maybe we can get Ahn Rhee to come over. As I'm sure is the case at Vail, one of best snow years here in some time. A Vail Epic pass works in Park City, too, since Vail owns Park City Ski Area.

"Anti semitism, largely driven by left wing movements, threatens the status of Jews throughout Europe. Yet, American Jews continue to vote predominately "left." Those same left driven, anti semitic, forces are building in the United States."

Yet another politically clownish statement by Steve and his cadre old-men-afraid-of-those-who-don't-believe-like-them ROMEO hacks. Your very first question in this email was "Why are most Jews politically liberal?" So are we to believe that Jews in America identify and vote with the very party that it moving against them and where most of the anti-Semites' reside? Such absurdist inconsistency. Your position insults Jews everywhere by saying they are stupid for identifying wjth Democrats- the very party that hates them.

Do chapters of the KKK movement in America trumpet (good one by me) Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders, a Jew? Are the leading Democratic candidates espousing a jingoistic, nationalist agenda or is it the Republicans? Spend some time on the SPLC website and you can see where hate groups are located. There are three in Utah, also known as the state with the highest percentage of Republicans.

Please remove me from this email list.

Horowitz is Jewish.  Biography "Radical Son," a worthy read.  For the last 15 years, Horowitz has been THE principal activist in ridding the left leaning American campus of anti Semitism.

Full disclosure:  I am a periodic donor to the David Horowitz Freedom Center. I have attended his Palm Beach retreat a couple of times.
