Resolving the UT SR 248 Congestion Conundrum

Rail between Quinn's Junction and Old Town? Repurposing the rail trail to an actual railway, accompanied by a landscaped park way for walking, cycling and running alongside is a good idea, in principle... at least as a part of the solution. But I'd have to see the numbers to be convinced it would be useful, on its own, to solve congestion in peak time. Busses in dedicated bus lanes, where equipment can be augmented or diminished much more easily than rail, still, to my mind, is the default solution to UT SR 248 congestion. The Sugar House Streetcar is a good template for a rail trail repurpose project. It's built on an old rail bed and has a beautiful parkway for running, walking, bicycling alongside. Spoiler: It's not widely used.

The Clive Bush idea to solve congestion by widening UT SR 248, and augmenting downtown parking should also be thrown into this discussion. Clive Bush LSDM speaker notes are attached to this note or can be found in the Speaker Notes section of  www.lsdm-parkcity.com.

If Olympic money coming in, PC should consider implementing all four together:

1. Repurposed railway and parkway on rail trail right-of-way.
2. Widen UT SR 248
3. Dedicated bus lanes.
4.. Augmented downtown parking.
