SDT Position on Abortion

I have, here, lifted an exchange on abortion held with a friend, two weeks ago, a few days before DJT articulated a similar position. My/DJT position is how Pubs should address the issue in their political campaigns. SFS articulates a facsimile of a campaign approach that will be taken by abortion advocates.

Steve… Correct me if I am wrong, but I am assuming you are strongly pro-choice and believe Roe v. Wade should never have been overturned. You, I am sure, oppose the Nazi like tactics being pursued by state governments in Texas, Alabama, Florida infringing on the personal liberties of women in those states.

SFS, I am pro-life.

Roe was bad law, and it was correct to repeal it. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people (Tenth Amendment). The Constitution provides for making changes. There is no mention of abortion rights in the Constitution. Empowering the feds in this area could, however, be accomplished by a repeal of the Tenth Amendment, a new amendment, or via changes made in a Constitutional Convention.

Meanwhile, states dealing with abortion have to weigh in the balance the right of the unborn child against the right of the woman who wants to terminate her pregnancy. In so deciding, they will be guided by the people as the founders intended.

Steve…Reasoned response. But we are all in favor of individual liberty unless and until other values intervene. You can appreciate how a woman in Texas might find your position hypocritical in the extreme but then women were not considered citizens in 1787. Keep your travel reflections coming.
