The China Conundrum

Provenance of this piece (below) from Ed is murky. Who is Bill Mowry? Still, as the piece highlights, US/China is a dicey issue. When, in world history, has a country, the US, been so dependent on another country, China, which is morphing from a benign economic partner into an enemy? The competition between Germany and England prior to WWI comes to mind. Inter-European trade and cultural exchange were booming in those early Twentieth Century glory days. Yet, the Kaiser felt he had to rival Britain's control of the seas with a growing navy. One thing led to another and... Thucydides trap, anyone? Russia/Ukraine a distraction from the real problem?
