Thin Blue Line

Above: I-15 Overpass. Southbound. Noonish. Two miles north of Santaquin, Utah County, Utah. 05 May 2025.
Image: Utah police officers, seen on overpass and in oncoming lanes, honor a Santaquin, UT police officer (yet to be named) who was intentionally killed only, only four hours earlier, two miles south of this point, by the driver of a semi-truck.

On our way to Ivins, UT, driving south on I-15 around 11:30 AM, Margaret and I were awe-struck and moved by the sight of police and emergency vehicles atop each overpass (at least a dozen overpasses) from Murray to Santaquin. We were aware that a police officer had not long before been killed in deliberate fashion by a perp, then still at large. As we noted these scenes of cops honoring one of their own, we expressed gratitude to one another for the "thin blue line" that separates our civilization from anarchy and chaos. Our hearts go out to the family of the slain officer. Knowing of anti-police attitudes affecting many areas of our country, it is our hope that more Utahns will have a healthy respect for the police's critical contribution to making Utah a great place to live as they reflect on this tragic incident.

Note: As I pen this note twenty-four hours later, the suspect has been apprehended. A news account is here:  Utah police officer killed by semi-truck, suspect arrested after hours-long manhunt (msn.com)
